Community Connections


Featuring a stellar line up of 3 outstanding applied learning programs we will visit Werribee SC, Deakin University, Newcomb P-Tech and Lorne P-12 College to get a firsthand account of their programs in action.

Friday will include a forum/workshop during which you will learn about the passion, principles and programs underpinning their success!

A fantastic opportunity to learn about innovative VAL program delivery including specific integrated projects. With ample time to meet other VAL educators, share stories and exchange engaging program ideas.

Join us on this unique overnight PD experience! Limited places available, so book now!

(registration fee includes morning tea and lunch on both days, and networking dinner on Thursday evening as well as travel on air-conditioned coach (Werribee – Lorne – Werribee)

9.20 AM Welcome from VALA & house keeping

9.30 AM Werribee SC Applied Learning program

Includes morning tea.

Narelle is known to always set the bar high for her Applied Learning students! Determined to equip the them with the skills and attitudes to be well and truly work ready, high expectations are placed on the students.

After delivering many innovative programs at Bellarine SC, for which she received her VCAA VCAL Teacher of the Year Award in 2016, she now leads the VCE-VM and VPC programs at Werribee SC.

Never leaving a learning opportunity go wanting, and always with the needs of the students at the forefront, the team at Werribee SC delivers a program that moves between integrated and non-integrated projects.

11.00 AM Depart WSC on Bus to Waurn Ponds

12.00 PM Arrive at Deakin University Waurn Ponds Campus (Lunch provided)

Informal lunch session on how to support new and PTT teachers in the VCE-VM and VPC.

1.00 PM Bus leaves Deakin Waurn Ponds

1.30 PM arrive at Newcomb P-Tech for information session and tour of facilities

3.00 PM Bus departs for Lorne

4.00 PM Arrive at Lorne, check-in to accommodation

5.00. – 7.00 PM.  

Join the community @ the Fig Tree Community House for dinner and celebrate this year's project from the Lorne p-12 Applied Learning students. Be inspired by local legend Cam Nugent and well renowned activist, actor and founder of the famous Moroccan Soup Bar Hana Asafari.

7.00 - 9.00PM

Team building gets serious when we cross the road to the Lorne Bowls club for a friendly game of barefoot bowling (bar open).

A fantastic opportunity to further foster lasting connections and friendships with your newly found peers from across the state. Exchange experiences and share your challenges. You’ll soon realise you’re not on your own. Always full of passion and packed with problem solving insights, one not to miss!

A unique opportunity to visit the new home of Lorne's Applied Learning program. Witness the engaging classroom and learn how and why it is set up the way it is (many past participants have incorporated this in their current classroom).

Join Cherie on a tour of the school ground to see the results of past projects and hear the stories behind them.

1.00 PM Collect packed lunch 

1.15 PM Coach departs Lorne

3.15 PM Coach arrives at Werribee Secondary College.
